Myth #6: Chiropractic Adjustments Are Unsafe

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the 10 Myths About Chiropractic segment! Sorry about the delay in posts, but I’m super excited to get back on track with this segment and others!

Saying that Chiropractic adjustments are unsafe is totally and completely false! Adjustments are one of the safest, natural, and effective way to improve your health and overall wellness. People often rely on medication to rid them of their pain, but in actuality it only dulls their pain, and tricks them into thinking their pain has been relieved. Not only will medications not get to the cause of the problem, but are by far more dangerous (because of the chemicals they contain) than any natural adjustment.

Adjustments will get to the heart of the problem, will help you feel better and improve your quality of life. However, you must make sure your adjustment is performed by a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C. for short), an adjustment performed by anybody else, including yourself, could be potentially dangerous.

Myth #4 Spinal Adjustments are uncomfortable

This is completely false, adjustments don’t hurt….they bring relief! Some individuals may experience some discomfort or soreness, but this is normal and only last for a short period of time.  Most of our patients LOVE and look forward to getting adjusted because it brings so much relief from pain or tension!

Myth #4: Chiropractic Care is too expensive.

Chiropractic Care doesn’t cost it PAYS! It pays in your overall health and quality of life. Chiropractic Care treats more than just symptoms of poor health, it treats the underlying cause which could save you money in expensive medications and surgery.

Here at Health For Life our main goal is to help you achieve optimum health and wellness, so we have set up convenient payment plans and other payment options to help you get your health on track and be able to stay within your budget!

Did you know that according the the Chiropractic Awareness Council (who quoted Top Clin Chiro in 1996) said that 87% of long-time chiropractic patients considered their health as excellent, took less medications, and experienced less chronic conditions associated with ageing.

Our office, much like many other Chiropractic offices, accepted a varity of insurance including Medicare, which cover Chiropractic benefits.

In the end, Chiropractic Care saves you money. It gets you on the right track to good health, and helps you avoid costly medications and surgeries.

Myth # 2 “Chiropractic helps adults, not children”

Many people believe this myth, but the truth is that Chiropractic Care is for EVERYONE! Dr. Stanbridge can see everybody ranging from newborns to geriatrics. Children, much like adults can have stress to their nervous system (which is caused by misalignment in the spine) that can create pain and other symptoms to their body.

The most common reason parents seek Chiropractic Care for their children is because of some physical trauma or injury to their child. Bumps, bruises, falls, playing sports, ect. all contribute to possible spinal problems in your child. Newborns can sometimes cause strains in their neck while trying to hold their head up, which can lead to misalignment of their spine.

Chiropractic care can start as early as right after birth. The birthing process sometimes can cause misalignment in a newborn child. The misalignment can be caused by the birthing canal, or some extractions (like c-section).

Dr. Stanbridge will modify and tailor his adjusting technique based on thew child’s size and condition. Children’s spines are more flexible (compared to adults), which means kids require less adjustments and respond quicker to chiropractic care.

Myth #1 “Chiropractors Aren’t Real Doctors”

At Health For Life, we’ve decided to start a new series on this blog called “The 10 Ten Myths About Chiropractic,” where we will talk about he top 10 myths/misconceptions people have about Chiropractic Care and why they are false!

This week we are going to start with myth #1

Chiropractors are not real doctors.

Many associate doctors with medications & surgery, which lead many to think that Chiropractors aren’t real doctors (because they aren’t necessary associate with medications and surgery). Many also have the misconception that Chiropractors don’t have as much schooling/education as doctors. This is completely false!

Prior to going to a Chiropractic College, someone interested in being a Chiropractor must complete the required 2-4 years (depending on college attend & the state you desire to practice in) of premed under-grad classes. Once the premed courses are completed they then complete 4-5 years of study at a Chiropractic College, plus successfully complete several hundred clinical hours and pass rigorous National and State Board exams in order to start their practice. Even after they are licensed, most states require that Chiropractors receive annual continuing education in order for them to maintain and update their education on Chiropractic.

Take a look at this chart comparing the course study hours of MD and DCs

Needless to say, Chiropractors are indeed Doctors (D.C. stands for Doctor of Chiropractic), and they do have the same (if not more in some areas) of education then doctors.
